Position Description
The Enterprise IT Business Analyst II scope of responsibility includes understanding the business goals and processes of Texas Tech departments, ability to use this knowledge to document business processes and serve as a liaison between central IT and functional departments assisting in support of software applications. Additional responsibilities include collecting, analyzing and developing data relative to business areas, assisting in implementation and configurations of software applications, and suggesting improvements in business processes as automation is implemented. The IT Business Analyst will document project definitions and business needs for automation use by the programming staff.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Coordinate, manage and maintain research database implementations and other data solutions as requested by management, such as the Learning Health Network (LHN). This may include data analysis, reporting, dashboard/visualization and other business intelligence implementations. Provide, recommend, document and implement Research data solutions. Work with vendors, other IT teams and research staff as necessary.
  • Lead administrative support, enhancements and maintenance for the Office of Research Sharepoint sites. Provide user management, site updates, workflows and form creation. Troubleshoot user issues, work with users to gather and document requirements, delegate tasks as necessary.
  • Lead administrative support, enhancements and maintenance for the Office of Research enterprise systems, such as REDCap, iRIS and Cayuse. Provide user and project management where applicable, form and report creation/maintenance and general system support. Troubleshoot user issues, work with users to gather and document requirements, and coordinate issue resolution with vendors. Delegate tasks as necessary.
  • Perform analysis on business process issues and inefficiencies within the Office of Research. Identify requirements, create and maintain documentation, and propose and implement potential process improvement solutions as requested by Research management and the Research Data Management Director. Delegate tasks to lower tier analysts as appropriate.
  • Create, manage and maintain an appropriate documentation strategy for Research IT and Office of Research tasks and projects.
  • Analyze new third party applications and tools to meet Research IT and Office of Research goals and objectives when required. Analyze and document requirements, work with vendors, schedule demos, present options to management and assist with software approvals and implementation when necessary.
  • Coordinate research system and server patches, enhancements, modifications and upgrades with the appropriate IT teams. Communicate to the Research Data Management Director for planning and approval, document and implement appropriate solutions when required.
  • Act as Research Data Management liaison, providing after hours testing support for Research applications when institutional systems are upgraded, such as firewall and network appliance updates.
  • Act as backup for Research Data Management Director when requested.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Web and Object Oriented Programming, SQL Server and .NET/C#.
  • Experience with CSS, JavaScript, jQuery and MVC Framework.
  • Experience with Git or other Version Control systems.
  • Understand and follow development coding standards, naming conventions and follow best practices for well documented code.
  • Understanding of programming languages, syntax structures and data management techniques.
  • Analytical design skills, including process description, logic, problem diagnostics, and problem solving.
  • Experience with requirements gathering, analysis and documentation for internal business processes.
  • Possess the ability to generate clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Exercise judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Plan and organize effectively, prioritize goals, use time efficiently, and stay on task.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be team oriented, self-motivated and flexible.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Specific or specialized technical skills, as appropriate to the area and/or team.
  • Experience with technical work in designing and developing database-driven web applications in a university and/or research environment is a plus.
  • Experience with Web Services and Windows Services a plus.
  • Experience with PHP, Linux and MySQL is a plus.
  • Experience with Sharepoint, iRIS/iMedRIS, REDCap, Cayuse and/or other research/sponsored program applications is a plus.
  • Experience with Oracle, Banner/Cognos queries and reporting is a plus.
  • Experience using Fortify and adhoc reporting tools is a plus.
  • Experience with database migrations is a plus.
  • Experience with Agile or other RAD iterative methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience with reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, Tableau and/or Microsoft Power BI is a plus.
  • Experience working directly with end users and vendors is a plus.
